Welcome to the website of the European Institute of International Studies (IEEI ), an Institute created for the promotion of academic values associated -in the framework of European culture- with international cooperation in the fields of policy and diplomacy, economy and trade, security and defense, society and humanities, education and science. These values pertain to democracy and good governance, individual rights and collective responsibilities like solidarity, social and gender equality, tolerance and respect for social, cultural, ethnic or religious minorities. They all contribute to the development of human societies as well as to fuller and fairer international relations.

International relations today are embedded in a changing world. They no longer remain the exclusive monopoly of governments but open themselves to new actors, offering space for public institutions and private partnerships, even for individuals. At the same time, globalization and new technologies have increased our capacity for interrelation, creating geopolitical spaces that have exceeded state boundaries and generated new ways of instant communication between people and individuals. It is, therefore, increasingly urgent to take advantage of these new opportunities and capabilities to safeguard and promote the mentioned values, re-enforcing both with the principles of legality and responsibility. The processes of regional integration -for which Europe remains an undisputed reference – have also opened the possibility to learn mistakes and successes from each other and to enjoy the mutual benefit of exchanging views and experiences as the integration processes advance. LAC is one of the regions with which the EU shares a clear identity in values and principles. This offers the possibility of an increasingly open, rich and fruitful inter-regional dialogue and cooperation.

The IEEI considers the intensification of relations and the deepening of the EU-LAC dialogue an absolute priority. With this in mind, the IEEI has set up a Consortium of more than twenty-five universities, centers, institutes and institutions to boost the inter-regional dialogue and cooperation on both sides of the South Atlantic, on equal footing, using the new communication technologies and based on the principles and values we share.
