About Us

The European Institute of International Studies was founded in Salamanca, Spain, in 2008 and relocated to Stockholm, Sweden in 2010, where it has since developed its core academic and research activities. Since 2017, it has operated as a registered non-profit research and education association, and it is recognised as the first centre in Northern Europe dedicated to international relations, diplomacy, and peace studies.

The Institute was established with the aim of reviving the intellectual tradition of the School of Salamanca and advancing its enduring contribution to the study of international relations, diplomacy, and peace. The School of Salamanca laid a decisive theoretical foundation for the development of international relations thought, articulating principles of legality, morality, and universality that remain central to contemporary theories of diplomacy and peace. As a research and education institution, the European Institute of International Studies is dedicated to advancing rigorous scholarly inquiry and high-level academic training in these fields.

Mission

Its mission is to educate and prepare responsible, forward-looking leaders dedicated to the service of society and the promotion of a more peaceful and just international order. Through a rigorous, values-based academic framework, the Institute combines professional excellence with a strong emphasis on ethical awareness and social responsibility.

EIIS functions as a knowledge hub structured around a quintuple-helix framework encompassing academia, governments, the private sector, civil society, and international organizations.
