Roundtable on New EU–Mercosur Trade Dynamics and the Impacts of the EUDR – Università degli Studi di Milano

On 27 February at 11:00, the Università degli Studi di Milano (UNIMI) will host the in-person roundtable “EU–Mercosur Trade: New Dynamics between Regulation and Sustainability” in Room T1 of the Department of Languages, Literatures, Cultures and Mediations.

The event offers an integrated analysis of ongoing developments in international trade between the European Union and Mercosur, in light of the debate surrounding the EU–Mercosur Partnership Agreement (EMPA) and the growing influence of EU regulations with extraterritorial effects, such as the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). The discussion will address the objectives, challenges, and future prospects of the EMPA, as well as the tensions between market liberalization and sustainability, and the practical implications for companies and Mercosur value chains.

The roundtable is organized by Professors Naiara Posenato and Aline Beltrame de Moura, with the support of the Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa e Inovação do Estado de Santa Catarina (FAPESC), the Latin American Center of European Studies (LACES), the Jean Monnet Network BRIDGE Watch: Values and Democracy in the EU and Latin America, the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina Jean Monnet Chair, the UNESCO Chair on Food Systems for Sustainable Development and Social Inclusion (University of Milan, ID 2022IT1504), and the European Institute of International Studies (EIIS), Sweden.
