The European Institute of International Studies (EIIS) invites applications from qualified researchers, academics, professionals and students worldwide for its Research Associate Programme and Research Internship Programme 2026–2027.
Based in Stockholm, Sweden, EIIS is an independent, non-profit research institute dedicated to advancing high-quality research, international cooperation and policy dialogue in the fields of international relations, diplomacy, global governance, international security, peace and conflict studies, EU and European affairs, and world politics.
Through these programmes, EIIS seeks to strengthen its international research community and provide opportunities for talented individuals to contribute to research, publications, policy analysis, international projects and academic initiatives.

🎓 RESEARCH ASSOCIATE PROGRAMME
For PhD holders, doctoral candidates, Master’s degree holders, researchers, academics and experienced professionals with demonstrated expertise in one or more of EIIS’s research areas.
RESEARCH ASSOCIATES MAY:
- Conduct independent and collaborative research.
- Prepare research papers, policy briefs, reports and academic publications.
- Contribute to European and international research projects and funding proposals.
- Participate in conferences, seminars, expert panels and policy dialogues.
- Collaborate with EIIS researchers and international partner institutions.
- Develop new research initiatives and academic cooperation activities.
- Contribute to the dissemination and international visibility of EIIS research.
💼 RESEARCH INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME
For final-year Bachelor’s students, Master’s students, recent graduates and early-career professionals seeking practical experience within an international and multidisciplinary research environment.
RESEARCH INTERNS MAY:
- Support research projects, policy analysis and data collection.
- Contribute to research reports, policy briefs and publications.
- Assist in the preparation of European and international project proposals.
- Support conferences, seminars and academic activities.
- Contribute to research dissemination and institutional initiatives.
- Collaborate with EIIS researchers and international partners on selected projects.
👥 Candidates should be proactive, responsible, internationally minded and capable of working both independently and within multicultural teams.

📅 PROGRAMME CONDITIONS
Format: On-site in Stockholm, remote, or hybrid, depending on programme and project requirements.
Duration: Up to 12 months, with flexible starting dates.
Language: A good command of English is required. Additional languages are considered an asset.
💰 FINANCIAL CONDITIONS
Participation in the Research Associate Programme and Research Internship Programme is unpaid.
Participants who demonstrate relevant expertise, skills and commitment may be invited to contribute to European-funded or other international projects developed by EIIS. Where project funding and requirements permit, such participation may be subject to a separate stipend or project-based contract.
Participation in either programme does not constitute an employment relationship with EIIS and does not guarantee subsequent paid engagement, project participation or employment.
📜 CERTIFICATE
Upon successful completion of the programme and fulfilment of the applicable requirements, participants will receive an EIIS Certificate of Completion.
