The Culture of Encounter. International Relations, Interreligious Dialogue and Peace

This research group is dedicated to the study and advancement of the concept of a “culture of encounter,” with a particular focus on global peacebuilding, diplomacy, and interreligious dialogue. Bringing together scholars, practitioners, and policymakers, the group adopts an interdisciplinary approach to examine how meaningful engagement among diverse cultures and faith traditions can foster mutual understanding and contribute to sustainable peace.

Through its work, the group seeks to position itself as a leading platform for promoting peace through dialogue and constructive encounter. By exploring the intersections between religion, culture, and international relations, it aims to generate both theoretical insights and practical contributions toward building a more peaceful, just, and cohesive global society.

Inter-Regional Dialogue and Global Governance

This Research Group is dedicated to studying and analyzing the impact of regional integration processes on international relations and their implications for global governance. By examining the interactions among key actors in an increasingly interconnected world, the group seeks to better understand how regional dynamics shape global decision-making structures. Its work places particular emphasis on inter-regional dialogue between the European Union and Latin America and the Caribbean, exploring how such cooperation can contribute to more effective and inclusive global governance. In doing so, the group promotes the advancement of shared principles and values, including peace, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law, as well as the pursuit of social cohesion and sustainable development.

In the core of a country’s development is a well-functioning financial system and an active and efficient private sector. This Research Group is focused on the different dynamics that are related to economic growth, delving into areas such as entrepreneurship and innovation, corporate governance, access to financial services and the business environment in general, together with the inter-linkages that tie such financial developments to financial regulation and geopolitical developments, this Group presents research projects with a well-informed insight presenting recommendations and actions. Overall, the aim of this Group is to promote sustainable development and poverty reduction through our different programs and publications.

Democracy And Rule of Law

This Group focuses on the various dimensions of supporting sustainable democracy worldwide. Its work spans electoral processes, political participation and representation, and constitution-building efforts. Drawing on the expertise of its members, the Group contributes in multiple ways to the promotion of resilient and healthy democratic systems.

Through its activities, the Group engages policymakers, public officials, and other key democratic actors, providing them with the tools and insights needed to strengthen democratic governance. This includes fostering a solid understanding of both foundational democratic theory and practical lessons derived from real-world experiences in addressing the challenges faced by democracies.
